The brand-new Gypsy's former sandwich-shop location has been entirely transformed into a chic (yet unpretentious) fine-dining room, complete with an impressive stone wall with trickling water and an as-yet-to-be-completed outside deck that shows more promise than a corkscrew in a wine cellar. Gypsy's cuisine is Northern Italian(replace "that's a spicy meat-a-ball!" with "that's a savory clam sauce!") with a fair amount of improvisation. One oft-overlooked reginal gem given its proper glory here is frico, an appetized made of pan-fried Montasio cheese and potato crepe. Don't let the fancy linens or use of the word "bistro" fool you: The prices are just a tad lower than most upscale Italian restaurants, and being this close to Barton Springs, Gypsy can't help but exude a relaxed atmosphere. Great for: Pasta without pretension. Entrees: $14 - $26
